It was quite an interesting day today. First, it was COLD this morning. When I left for work, it was 8 degrees. 8 degrees. I live in the upstate of South Carolina. The last time it was that cold was in 1985. This southern girl doesn't handle the cold very well. I froze this morning. :-(
My district decided to call for an optional 3 hour delay. The 3 hour delay was called specifically for buses so that students don't have to stand in the freezing temperatures waiting on the bus. So, teachers had to be there at regular schedule time. Students could come in at any point before 11. I had 2 students show up at 8:50. By 10 o'clock I had 6 students. From 10:00-10:45, I had 4 more come in. 14/18 showed up. Below is a picture I took at 10 o'clock.
Despite the freezing temperatures and the late start, we still had a fun day. I didn't get to "teach" a lot today, but we did get some stuff done. It was actually a great day.
First, we talked about New Year's resolutions and made inferences about what a certain character/animal's resolutions would be. I bought Rachel, The Tattooed Teacher's packet 'Everybody's Makin New Year's Resolutions! A Zainy Inference Activity'. My students LOVED it. Here's a couple of them in action.
The one with Spongebob says, "To work more in the Krusty Crab, to use new pans, and to not talk to Patrick." These turned out ADORABLE. Super cute! Thanks, Rachel, for such a cute activity.
Click the picture below to check out her packet. If you need a quick activity to do this week, I'd recommend it.
Next, we worked on our next lap book. When I told my kids yesterday that we were making another lap book to review before the test on Friday they were all so excited. This one has a football theme and may just be my favorite one yet. This is not in my store yet, but here's a few of them working hard. Hoping to have it ready to go by Friday.
Last, I came home to a package on my porch today. Brayden's birthday is Sunday (this is the last week that I have a one year old). :-( I ordered him some personalized books from I See Me. They are plum adorable. As I was looking through the pages, I saw one page that made me laugh. Here in the state of South Carolina, we have a pretty extensive rivalry between the Clemson Tigers and the Carolina Gamecocks. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I'm a Clemson fan. This book is about all of the things Brayden can be when he grows up. In the picture frame below it appears that Brayden received his degree from the University of South Carolina also know as the Carolina Gamecocks. When they asked me which state we lived in, I didn't know this is what they had in mind. The books came from Minnesota. So, all I got to say is....Minnesota needs to learn that there is more than 1 university in South Carolina. This picture made this Tiger laugh. :-) Hoping Brayden doesn't decide to become a Gamecock...I'm already making him say "Go Tigers!".
I hope that you all had a great day. If you are experiencing the severe cold weather, I hope that you all stay warm and safe. I'm ready for this cold weather to go away.
Lots of love,
Jeannie
Oh my gosh! I can't image 8 degree weather! Love the lapbook idea for addition!

This is the first time it's been that low since 1985. Quite uncommon. Brrr...was it cold!! :-(
DeleteWe had a 2 hour delay here in Charleston! I had 14/19 kids show. The picture from your son's book is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI thought other people from South Carolina would get that. ;-) Hoping that the cold snap is gone for good.
