A Peek at My Week

Hello, Friends!

The weekends seems to go so fast.  I saw this picture as I was scrolling through Pinterest. Sums up how I feel.  I don't remember being this tired while I was pregnant with Brayden. But then again, I wasn't chasing a 2 year old after working all day either.  Any suggestions? 

I finally got my lesson plans done.  So, here's what I will be up to this week! I'm linking up with Deedee for her Peek at My Week Linky.

Reading:

We have been hitting informational text hard!  This week, we will be working on asking and answering questions during my mini lessons.  My book choices this week are from the Cat in the Hat's Learning Library.  These are the cutest little books full of information.  During my interactive read aloud, we will be discussing how the illustrations help us to answer our questions.  

Math:

We are still studying multiplication.  Our Multiplication Boot Camp is still going very well!

Social Studies:

We will be continuing to learn about the key explorers of South Carolina and how they interacted with the Native Americans.

Writing:

We are continuing to study opinion writing.  Ashleigh's writing units have been so helpful as I learn all about 3rd grade.  Click below to check her unit out. We will also be reviewing opinions vs facts with my opinion cards.  

       

So, that's the plan for the week.  We've also got a Get Smart Assembly and a field trip to mine for some rocks this week, too.

The Game Plan for the Week

Happy Saturday, Friends!

I decided to get my plans all done today since the Super Bowl is tomorrow.  If you've been reading my blog, you know I am a HUGE football fan.  I'm puling for Peyton Manning and his Broncos tomorrow.

Since I actually have them finished, I was able to have time to create some visual plans for you. I'm usually still doing lesson plans on Sunday at 9:00, so I very rarely have time to share my week with you.  Yay for being productive.  Maybe I can keep this up! ;-)

So, here is the game plan for the week.

In reading, we are still plowing through fables.  We will be reading That's Not Fair Hare, Andy and the Lion, The Rabbit and the Turtle, The Blind Men and the Elephant, and Town Mouse and Country Mouse.  I found two ADORABLE packets below that I have been using throughout this unit for guided reading groups and shared reading.

In math, we are finishing up our graphing unit.  This is one of my FaVoRiTe units to teach because my students just seem to get it every year.  They also love rolling and graphing and creating their own graphs.  I'm using my winter roll and graph packet and my winter accessories roll and graph packet.  The winter accessories roll and graph packet is a freebie on my Facebook page. I also have 2 review centers during my math center block.  We finished up my winter centers last week, so now I will be using Amy Lemon's this week.  

In science, we are finishing up our weather unit.  We are still working on severe weather.  I found Hope King's weather packet last week and it is adorable.  I wish I would have seen this earlier.  It is absolutely amazing and exactly what I needed to teach my weather unit. 

In writing, we are writing fictional stories.  These are so cute.  I cannot wait to share some of them with you.  We read Arnie the Doughnut (highly recommend...it's too cute) and they chose an object from a bag to personify.  

Our WORD chunk this week is the ong/ung sounds.  

AND....Tuesday is our 100th day of school.  I will be using these two packets.  So hard to believe it has already been 100 days.  Wow!

Love Me Some Polka Dots and Chevron and a Quick Peek at My Week

Happy Sunday, friends!

As I was looking around my classroom this week and taking stuff down, I started to think about what I wanted to change about my room. School is out in 7 days and I'm thinking about next year already. I must be crazy!!

I have a pirate theme in my room this year. I bought red and black polka dotted fabric for my bulletin boards. I just love polka dots. I've fallen in love with chevron patterns. Who hasn't?

So, while Brayden has been napping this weekend I made me some new word wall words and headers for my classroom next year. Yep, they are polka dot and chevron themed. I can't wait to put them up. I'll definitely be making lots more stuff for my classroom this summer with polka dots and chevron to match my word wall. Super duper excited about my theme. This is my last full week of school. I'm off tomorrow, but next week we have 3 half days. This is it. I've got a lot of fun stuff planned this week.

Writing:
I'm so excited to be using Sara Cooley's, First Grader At Last,  Hollywood themed packet. We will be making our memory books and I'll be having a Hollywood themed party filled with food as awards of Friday. Click the picture to check out her packet. Pictures of our party to come...

Math: 
We will be using my review packet for all the common core standards we have leaned this year. Click the picture to check it out. They sure have learned a lot. We took our math benchmark last week and my lowest score was a 75. I'm so proud of my little smarties!!

Reading:
We have been transitioning from centers to independent reading. They sit in their seat and read. They have a reading notebook where they have certain pages to fill out every day. I miss centers!!

Science:
I'm bringing out the play dough this week. My little monsters will be making habitats and animals and writing about it.

WORD: 
Lots and lots of games are planned this week as we review out word wall words. I'm finally getting to use my Duck Dynasty themed packet. That makes me happy, happy, happy! Click the picture to to check it out. 

Even though school is practically over, summer fever has set in for my students (and me), we are still reviewing and learning.

My First Attempt At Visual Plans

I'm attempting something for the very first time.  After seeing so many fantastic bloggers share their weekly plans, I thought that was a great idea.  What better way than to see how we are using resources inside our classroom. So, I'm linking up with the fantastic Deedee, the original Visual Plans creator. 

I usually do my lesson plans in Microsoft WORD and was having the hardest time transferring my file to PowerPoint.  Next week, I hope everything goes a little smoother.  My lesson plans are 7 pages long.  Click the picture below to see my visual plans.

I LOVE the way that Greg from Kindergarten Smorgasboard breaks down each day for his followers.  I am a day by day kinda gal! :-)

Monday

We have a Plan for Success day from 8:15-11:30.  That means that I get to plan with  my team and talk about what we want to do for the rest of the year while our students are going through stations around the school.  I am really excited about this.

Reading-I am so excited that we are doing a week of mysteries.  Love, love, love.  My students are always so engaged.

I am so excited to read this one! Grandpa's teeth are stolen from his bedside so we makes everyone smile to find them.  Super Cute!

Literacy Centers and Guided Reading-None due to Planning for Success Day

Math-Due to our Planning for Success Day I won't be having math today

Writing-We've been writing Non-Fiction Books and we will be editing them all week. Their books are looking so cute. Today's focus in on using a dictionary.

Social Studies-My students will be learning about the contributions of Native Americans.  My teammate has made a flipchart for us to use so I can't share it with you.  Sorry, friends!

WORD-This week we are learning the -eigh sound.  We will be drawing -eigh pictures today.  My smarties love to draw!

Interactive Read Aloud: Miss Nelson is Missing

We've all read this story.  Miss Nelson is messing and the kids are faced with a substitute.  I LOVE this story and I know my smarties will, too!

Math-We are starting our Geometry Unit.  Day 1 is always a pre-test. Every unit I give my students a pre-test so I know what they know about the topic.  My students love to see what's going to be on their next test. Boring day in math today!

Writing-We've been writing Non-Fiction Books and we will be editing them all week. Their books are looking so cute. Today's focus in partner editing.

Social Studies-My students will be learning about the contributions of African Americans.  My students will be watching a video on Duke Ellington.

Shared Reading-Excerpt from Cam Jansen and the Secret Service Mystery

Interactive Read Aloud: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick

This is such a neat book. There are 14 black and white pictures with hardly any words.  Students have to make up their own stories.  Such a neat idea!

Math-We are using geo-boards today and playing around with making shapes today.  I have 5 math centers.  

Center 1-ME.  I see every group EVERY DAY.  This way I know exactly what they know and how they're doing

Center 2-Students will be drawing shapes at their seats

Center 3-I'm using Christina Bainbridge's Guess My Shape in our game center this week.

Centers 4 and 5 are skill review centers.  This week I am reviewing money and graphing with both of my Gangnam Style packets.

Writing-We've been writing Non-Fiction Books and we will be editing them all week. Their books are looking so cute. Today's focus in partner editing.

Social Studies-For the next few days we are learning about how immigrants have contributed to out culture.  We are using A LOT of Compass videos. 

WORD-We are playing hangman today.  They LOVE this game.

The Big Bad Wolf goes missing and the detectives have to use clues to find him.  Adorable!  I know my kiddos will enjoy this story.

Interactive Read Aloud: Tuesday

This is another story with little words.  My students will have to figure out what happened on Tuesday using the illustrations and times given by the author. This book is adorable, too!

Math- Classifying Shapes?  Easey Peasy!  We'll start off by reading The Greedy Triangle.  

Center 1-ME.  I see every group EVERY DAY.  This way I know exactly what they know and how they're doing

Center 2-Students will be creating a shape booklet with their attributes. 

Center 3-I'm using Christina Bainbridge's Guess My Shape in our game center this week.

Centers 4 and 5 are skill review centers.  This week I am reviewing money and graphing with both of my Gangnam Style packets.

Literacy Centers

I'm doing these separately because they are split up by days.  Since we have our Plan for Success day I will be having centers on Tuesday-Friday.  

Here's the plan for Tuesday and Wednesday:

Reading Center-we will be working on my new packet.  Students will be reading inference stories and figuring out who the missing hat belongs to.

Writing Center-My kiddos will be creating their own mysteries using this adorable packet from The Teaching Reef.

WORD Center-I'm bringing the Play-dough out.  Yep, they love it!

Theme Center-They will be drawing pictures of cultural contributions.

Computer Center-RAZ Kids-check out their website if you haven't heard of them.  Students read books on their independent level and earn points by taking quizzes.  This is a favorite for my kids!

Here's the plan for Thursday and Friday

Reading Center-we will be continuing to work on inferences.  I'm using a packet from Fourth and Ten that is super cute.  Students will make inferences to figure out whose shoe is whose?

Writing Center-Still Writing Mysteries

WORD Center- Students will be spelling their words using the word tiles I have.  

Theme Center-They will be drawing pictures of cultural contributions.

Computer Center-RAZ Kids
