Presidents' Day Fun and Officer 'ED'

Hello, friends!

We've had such a great and busy week and we've only been in school for 2 days.  My students had a blast learning about the presidents.  Check out our pictures below.

Roll and Graph...so much fun!

What would you cook the president for dinner? Such CUTE answers! Spaghetti, hamburgers, and beef sausage pizza on the menu in my class.

Next up, my kiddos met Officer Ed.  Officer Ed taught them about the different sounds that "ed" makes.  I called words with the suffix "ed" word criminals because they try to trick us with their ending sounds. On Tuesday they walked around the room and found the "ed" words and wrote them in the right category on their recording sheet. Then we came back together and placed all the words on our white board.  They had tons of fun!

This little boy made my day.  He covered up the ed and was trying all the sounds.  Such a happy teacher moment!

Here's our completed sort!

Today, we played Officer High Five.  They each received a "badge" and had to write down an "ed" word.  Then they gave a high five to a "police officer".  They had to read each other's words and then switch badges.  My kiddos love the high five and switch game.

New Items and a Presidents' Day Sale

Happy Sunday, friends!

My little munchkin' spent the night with his Grandma so the hubby and I could enjoy our Valentine's Day dinner.  I realized that this has been the 10th Valentines that we have celebrated together.  We are high school sweethearts.  Hard to believe that we have been together that long.

Since my munchkin' was with his Grandma this morning and my hubby was away golfing I was able to finish up two of my packets without any interruptions.  What a difference that makes...

So, here they are:

The last couple of weeks my students have been working on double and triple digit addition.  They have been matching the math sentence on an MP3 player (clipart) to the MP3 player with the correct answer.  They thought finding matching MP3 players was the coolest thing in the world.  Makes my heart happy.  Click below to check out my packet.

Second, my students LOVE to roll and graph.  St. Patrick's Day is coming up next month, so I went ahead and made another packet just for St. Patrick's Day.  I can't wait to use it with my kiddos.  Click below if you are interested in using this for math for St. Patrick's Day.

Also, I have my Presidents' Day packets 10% off this week to celebrate Presidents' Day. I am lucky to have tomorrow off.  I can't wait to spend time with my munchkin'.

Click the packets below to check out my Presidents' Day activities.

Of course, since I have two new products I'd love to share with 2 of my fantastic followers.  Leave me a comment below and I will pick two random winners tonight at 9:00 to win my Shufflin' Into Subtraction and St. Patrick's Day Roll and Graph.

Lots of love,

Five For Friday

It's FRIDAY, friends!

See, I told y'all that I was going to link up on time this week. ;-)

I'm linking up with Kacey from Doodle Bugs to share five random things about my week.  It's been such a LONG week.  I am so glad that we have Monday off to rest.  I'm in need of it.

Number 1-I had to share a picture from our party yesterday  If you read my blog post yesterday, then you saw that I played the cookie game where you had to get the cookie into your mouth using only your facial muscles.  My kiddos were still talking about it today.  So much fun!

Number 2-I am using WAY too much paper on literacy centers.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE centers and differentiated guided reading.  Fridays are our "Fun Fridays  in reading.  Students finish their work from the week and then get to participate in fun literacy activities. Today, I tried the Daily 5.  They loved it and asked me if they could do this all the time instead of our "other centers".  Hmmmm....I have a lot to think about this weekend and definitely for next school year.

Number 3-I read this book to my class yesterday during our Interactive Read Aloud time.  It was a hit.  Such a cute and funny story, but had a great lesson to go along with it.

Number 4-I purchased Rachelle's, What the Teacher Wants, packet about the legend of St. Valentine.  She has such cute ideas!  This packet was adorable and they learned so much.  Definitely put this on you wishlist for next year, friends if you didn't buy it.  My kiddos had so much fun talking about St. Valentine and understanding what Valentine's Day is all about.

Number 5: This time last year I was on maternity leave with a 1 month old.  This year, I have a rambunctious 1 year old who's in to everything.  Brayden would not let me get a good picture of him.  He has on his "hunk of burning love" shirt.  Too cute not to share!

Link up and share all about your week! I'm finishing up a new packet.  It's called "Shufflin' into Subtraction".  My students used it this week and loved it.  Details coming soon. :-)

Some Valentine Day Fun

Happy Valentine's Day, Friends!

I hope everyone had a GREAT day.  I had a blast with my kiddos and HAD to share some of my favorite pictures from today. I'd love to hear what you did today.

I came across this precious packet on TpT.  This packet has a collection of 40 awards that fit the personality of all my children.  I found the exact awards I needed within 15 minutes.  They were SUPER cute.  My students loved reading their award and comparing it to all their friends.  Definitely check out this packet and save it for next year.  I also gave my kids a Valentine themed homework pass.  They thought I'd given them "gold".  They were so excited and said this was the best Valentine's Day ever.  I love them so!

And now, for our class pictures.

First, we made bags for our cards.  Some of them were too cute for words.

A couple of my smarties thought it would be funny to write a hidden comment on the flap of their bags.

This little boy is "proposing" to his girlfriend.  I've tried and tried to tell them that we all have the dreaded "cooties".  :-)

Another hidden flap...notice the hidden d at the top.  We need to work on spelling a little bit more.  Being from the south, sometimes we don't say all our letters.  He kept telling me that it's 'hansome" and that he doesn't hear a d.  Too cute!

Second, I had two games I was planning to play with my kiddos today.  The first one fell through.  I went to find conversation hearts and couldn't find them anywhere.  So we played the cookie game instead.  We played this game at a faculty meeting (the grade level chairs were volunteered) and it was HILARIOUS so I knew that I had to play it with my kiddos this year.  I know you've seen this one before, and it was a hit. They LOVED it and it was so much fun.  Check out our cookies in action.

This little boy said he wasn't using his facial muscles that he was going to scream quietly to get it to come down.

His cookie got stuck in his glasses so many times.

I hope you all had a fantastic day.  Happy Valentine's Day.  I love and appreciate each and every one of you.  You all rock!

Lots of love,

A Valentine's Day Freebie and A New Packet

Hello, sweet friends!

Valentine's Day is this week. I wanted to share a freebie with you from the Valentine's Day packet.  My class LOVES to make ABC books, so I cannot wait to see what they come up with. Each student will be assigned a letter of the alphabet and will write and draw a picture of something they love that starts with that letter.  Click the picture below to grab your freebie. If you download, please leave me some love. :-)  I love reading your sweet comments.  They truly make my day.

I finished a new packet today!  I'm so excited.  St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, so I created another "How To" writing packet.  Students will write about how they would get the leprechaun to share their pot of gold.  I can't wait to use it.  I'll give this packet away for FREE to the first three people to leave me comment telling me what you'd do if you found the leprechaun's pot of gold. :-) Click the picture below to check out my new packet.

Five for Friday (or Saturday)

Hello, friends!

I had such a busy day yesterday, that I didn't get a chance to share 5 random things about my week with you.  So, instead of Five for Friday I'm having a Five for Saturday.

1. My husband is a huge golf fan.  This week Brayden, remember he just turned 1 in January, picked up a golf club and started hitting golf balls.  My husband was jumping up an down for joy. I should have taken a picture of that! ;-) Looks like I'm gonna have to learn to love golf. It's not my most favorite sport...

2.  I uploaded my latest packet today.  My students have been having a blast with mental math.  The 2nd grade math common core standard has students mentally adding and subtracting 10 and 100.  I think it's safe to say that most of my students understand it!  Yay!  Check out my packet below if you are teaching mental math now or just need a fun way to review.

3.  I made some delicious potato soup this week.  I'd never heard of adding cream cheese into potato soup, but it was super duper YUMMY.  Click here to check out the recipe for yourself.  It's definitely worth it. It is from an issue of the Paul Dean magazine...that means it has to be good.  Ms. Paula doesn't steer us in the wrong direction when it comes to food! The picture below is from their website.  I didn't think about taking my own picture.

4.  My field trip didn't go very well.  I was highly upset that we were told there wasn't anywhere in the building for us to eat and we would have to eat outside.  Normally, this wouldn't be a problem BUT it was cold and rainy.  We had to eat on the school bus.  Not fun at all.  My students loved the museum, but next year we will not be going back. :-(

5.  I'm SO ready for Spring.  The weather has went from hot to cold, hot to cold all this week.  I LOVE living in the South, but I sometimes wish weather here could either be hot or cold.  I can't handle 4 different weather changes in one week.

Next week friends, my goal will be to tell you about  my week on FRIDAY.  Fingers crossed...I know I can do it.

Have a great weekend!

February Currently

Hello, friends!

I'm linking up with Farley from Oh Boy, Fourth Grade for February's Currently.  I know I'm a little late, but better late than never! :-)

First, my husband found a show on TNT called Castle.  It's one of those mystery crime shows which I normally don't get into.  However, I LOVE this show.  Highly addictive!

I'm loving the warm weather that has hit the South these last few days.  I'm hoping the groundhog was right and warmer weather is on its way.  I hate the cold!!

I thinking that 15 parents will be fun on our field trip tomorrow.  I have a love/hate relationship with field trips.  You never know how the trip is going to turn out.  We are going to the Children's Museum and they require 1 chaperone for every 5 kids.  That's A LOT of parents!

I'm wanting to have my pre-baby body back.  I'm going to the beach for Spring Break in April and dread getting into a bathing suit.  I need to exercise, but I can't find the time.

I'm needing to grade papers.  I usually don't get this behind, but I have.  They WILL all be graded this weekend.  That's the plan anyway! :-)

My biggest pet peeve is lying.  I can't stand when people lie to each other.  Just tell the truth.  You'll eventually get caught anyway!

Link up with Farley and let us know what you are "currently" doing in February.

Lots of love,

Take a Peek at What I Bought!

Hello, friends!

I told y'all that I'd be back to blog about all the awesome things I bought during the Super Sunday Sale.  I'm linking up with Blog Hoppin' to share all of the fantastic things I found.  Click on any of the pictures to purchase them for yourself. :-)

Now, on to my FABULOUS finds...

I love linking up with Farley each month to do her Currently (working on February's Currently now).  In her preview she has January's Currently as a freebie.  I tried it with my kiddos and they absolutely loved it!  Such a cute idea.  My smarties did their currently this week during their writing center.  I'll have to share pictures with you of their answers.

These frames are from Ashley Hughes.  I just love her stuff!  I've already used her black frame in my next product that I hope to have uploaded this weekend.

I'm such a loser that I did not know that Melonheadz had a TpT store.  How did I not know this?I?! knew she had an Etsy store which I have browsed through so many times.  I've always loved her clip art, so I took the plunge and bought these ADORABLE graphics!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!

I've been racking my brains over how to add in the speaking and listening skills that Common Core requires.  The answer to my problem...Show and Tell.  Why not bring back show and tell.  I loved it as a child, and I'm glad that I decided to bring it back.  :-)

These borders and from the adorable Krista Wallden from Creative Clips.  I just love all of her stuff.  Super duper cute!

What did you buy?  I'd love to hear from y'all!

Lots of love,
