Measurement Mania and a FREEBIE

Hello, friends!

We have dived head first into our last unit in math.  Yes, friends.  I said our LAST unit in math.  Summer is right around the corner.  My kiddos have been learning all about inches and feet for the last few days.

We made our own homemade rulers so they can actually see what an inch looks like and how many it takes to reach a foot. Who would have thought that making rulers could be so much fun. Why I didn't take picture while we were making the rulers last week baffles me, but here are our finished products.

And...I whipped up a super cute measurement center that we will be using on Thursday and Friday.  Click the picture below to grab your copy. I hope your students can use it.

Do You Tableau?

Hello, friends!

Have you ever heard of tableaus?  My students for the past 4 years have loved planning and creating these frozen pictures.  We have been studying different habitats for about two weeks.  Today, was their time to shine and actually be able to physically show me what they know.

First, let's back it on up!  A tableau is a where students create a still picture of a concept.  I have used them for vocabulary words, famous people, animals, and many other concepts.  Tableaus are such a fun way for students to actually be able to show that they know what concept you are reviewing is while having tons of fun. You can create a tableau of pretty much anything!

So, back to my classroom today.  Tomorrow is the big test on habitats.  My smarties are ready!  To review today, I had them plan with their groups for 5 minutes.  Then, they took about 2 minutes getting their tableau ready. Next up, is their finished tableau.  I always ask each student what they are trying to show me.  Their creativity really gets to shine.  You'll be surprised what they can come up with! :-)

Here are my groups planning.

Next, they began to plan their tableau.

I didn't realize he was blurry.  He was an animal jumping out the water. :-)

And...our final product.

This group is showing me the rain forest. The girl in the middle is a monkey.  The girl in the jacket is a monkey hanging from the tree.  The boy is a jaguar trying to get the monkey.

This group is showing me the ocean. The girl is the water and the boy is a dolphin jumping out of the water.

This groups created the desert.  The girl standing is the cactus.  The boy is a lizard and the girl is a snake.

Do you have any fun ways to review before the test?  I hope everyone has had a wonderful day. Tomorrow is FRIDAY!  Woohoo!

Habitat Rap

Hello, friends!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful day.  We have been reviewing habitats for the last couple of weeks.  My students get to choose a variety of things to do for each habitat that we discuss.  They can either draw a detailed picture, write a letter to the president telling him to keep the habitat safe, create a story or comic strip, or write a song.  I just HAD to share one of my student's raps with you.

Rainforest Rap
You need...you need...you need
You need to take care of the rainforest.
It's so cool.
Now shake your tail.
Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go...GO!
All the animals say "Yahaaaaaaaaa."
When I say rain you say forest
Rain...Forest
Now everybody...SCREAM!

He has the rapping part down, but didn't quite understand that he's suppose to write a song about the habitat itself.  However, it made my bust out laughing.  So, of course I had to share!

I Can See Summer!

Hello, friends!

I may or may not be counting down the days left until summer break.  I'll be honest, 32 more days for me.  I love my students, but I also have a love for summer vacation. Who doesn't??Spending the summer with Brayden is all I can think about.  My munnchkin' is growing up WAY too fast.

Spring fever has definitely hit my classroom.  Talking with other teachers, I know that I am not alone.  This is such a stressful time of year.  State testing for the intermediate grades and trying to keep the little ones engaged for the remainder of the year is such a task. This weekend, while Brayden was taking a nap, I was thinking about how I can keep my little monsters engaged when they are so ready for summer vacation.

Drum roll please....
I came up with this fun roll and graph packet!  I'm so excited to use this one.  My students LOVE to roll and graph, and using these fun summer graphics from the AMAZING Krista from Creative Clips will be a hit.

I'll share this packet with the first 3 people to leave me a comment. I hope everyone has had a WONDERFUL weekend.  Back to work tomorrow...

Let's Get Acquainted: Skittles Game

Hello, friends!

Brayden is FINALLY feeling better, and I've FINALLY been able to sit down at my computer and  say hello!  What better way than a Let's Get Acquainted Linky?!?!

I'm linking up with Flying into First Grade for her Let's Get Acquainted Linky.  The linky this week is called the Skittles game.  Super cute!

TOPIC - Skittles Game

Here is the code:
Red- Favorite Ice Cream Flavor
Orange- Favorite Memory from College
Yellow- Favorite Sports Team
Green- Favorite Fast Food Place
Purple- Wild Card(Tell anything about yourself

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Strawberry
I love ice cream!  I love the ice cream that has all the crazy stuff in it...Oreos, Reese's, Nuts, Carmel...I could go on and on.  But, my favorite is plain ol' strawberry.  Sometimes you just need something simple.

Favorite Memory from College:
Wow!  That's a hard one.  I spent four years at one of the best universities on Earth (more on that in a minute) and met some of the best friends I'll ever have.  My favorite memory was how I met one of my best friends.  I had to drive her back and forth from Clemson to our school for student teaching.  She dropped a pot of boiling water on her foot while cooking supper for her then boyfriend. If it weren't for that pot of water we wouldn't be as close.  Awful situation, but we would up becoming really good friends!

Favorite Sports Team: Clemson Tigers
I am a huge football fan!  Summer is my favorite season, but when fall rolls around I get all wired up for some football.  I went to Clemson University (to me, the best university on Earth). From the time I was little, I always knew I was going to go there and be a real "Tiger".  Yep!
C-L-E-M-S-O-N T-I-G-E-R-S...FIGHT TIGERS, FIGHT TIGERS, FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

Favorite Fast Food Place: Zaxby's
Yum...yum...yum!  I love me some Zaxby's.  Sweet and spicy boneless wing meal is my go to from Zaxby's.  I hate that they stopped selling their fried pickles (yes, I'm from the South) and their cake batter milkshake. Those were my guilty pleasures. DELICIOUS!

Purple-Wild Card
I'm scared to sleep by myself.  My sister and I are five years apart.  For as long as I can remember, we always shared a room together.  So, I've never really had to sleep alone.  When my husband has to go away for a few days for school, I just don't know what to do.  I hear every sound in the house and become paranoid.  I hate to sleep by myself!  It takes me forever to go to sleep!

Link up with Latoya and play the Skittles game!

I'm Back!

Hello, friends!

I feel like I haven't blogged in FOREVER! I told y'all that we were going to the beach for Spring Break.  I LOVED the vacation, but the beach weather was COLD.  I was not a happy camper.  I've said before that I hate the cold.  I go to the beach where it's suppose to be warm and sunny and what do I see, rain and cold.

Here's a few pictures from our trip.

Brayden HATED the beach.  He has shoes on in this picture because he did not like the sand touching his feet.  Too bad it was too cold to try again.  Hopefully, we'll go again this summer and he'll learn to love the beach.

Look what I bought Brayden.  Crocs that change color.  LOVE them!

We played putt putt. No fun with a one year old.  He didn't understand that we had to keep going to another hole.  He cried and cried!

I mentioned it was cold right???

So, we returned Sunday and guess what happened on Monday?  Brayden got sick.  So, I've got to stay an extra two days at home with a sick little boy.

So...that means I finally got to finish a new packet that I've been working on FOREVER.  My students are learning time this week.  I'm so excited to let them use my new superhero themed matching game.  They're gonna love it.

Since I feel like I've been gone from by bloggy friends for so long, I'm going to give my packet away to 3 people.  All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me what you did or are planning to do for Spring Break. I'll randomly choose 3 winners tomorrow around 9:00.

Lots of love,
